Picacho Peak
Picacho Peak is located in-between Phoenix and Tucson. Like many of us I have driven by it hundreds of times, but never really spent any time there. This last week was the first time that I have entered the park for photographic reasons.
I arrived when the park opened. Both the lighting and vistas were incredible.
These mountains in the background are toward the east (across the freeway).
Another image of the mountain, with a saguaro skeleton in the foreground.
Interesting cactus grouping.
Infrared Photograph. Notice the moon in the background. This is from a previous trip to Picacho, when I didn't have time to actually enter the park.
A second from that same trip. This one is solarized for effect.
Another type of view.
Interesting cloud pattens behind Picacho Peak.
The park ranger at the entry gate mentioned that the sunsets are amazing, the glowing light reflecting off the peak, changing colors. That was all I needed to hear, I will be back.
So next time when you are "driving by" Picacho, stop in. It will be worth your while.
